Pediatric and Medical Associates follows the national asthma guidelines for standard of care. There are varying degrees of asthma severity and therefore a range of guidelines for follow up visits. Every asthmatic should be seen at least once yearly for an asthma focused appointment to review medications, dosing and for an assessment of asthma control. If your child uses a daily maintenance asthma medication, he or she should be evaluated at least two times per year. At Pediatric and Medical Associates, all children over 6 years old will also receive pulmonary function testing (spirometry) during their visit to help the clinician assess asthma control.

With summer approaching, now is the perfect time to schedule an asthma focused visit. Many children on maintenance asthma therapy are able to take a summer "holiday" off daily medications depending on their asthma triggers and level of control. If your child has not had an asthma appointment within this year or if he/she takes a daily maintenance medication, please call our office to schedule an appointment. Please bring all of your child's asthma medications to the visit so that we may review their current dosing and asthma plan. If they have used their rescue inhaler (i.e. Albuterol, Xopenex, Maxair) on the day of their appointment, we will not be able to perform a spirometry test during that office visit.
